"Quotation"

group profile | members | imagewall | quotation maps

We bloggers like a good quote, don't we?

This group is for your favourite quotations, and i'm not just talking about things you read in Bartlett's. It could be an inspirational excerpt from an ancient text; a memorable line from a movie; advice an old school teacher gave that stuck with you. It can even be something you overheard at the bus stop this morning.

Send a photo to accompany your quote; record it on your phone and MMS the audio file; vox-pop yourself speaking the powerful words on video. You can even just SMS it in (but that would need to be a pretty short quote. 160 characters max!)

If you tag the posts, perhaps we can build up a searchable bank of our own favourite words, phrases, quotations...

You get the picture. Join the group and get quoting. You can quote me on that.

Remembrance

(viewed 125 times)
If we return, will England be
Just England still to you and me?
The place where we must earn our bread?
We, who have walked among the dead....

I posted this to the Twiglet Zone last November for Remembrance Sunday.
I have a huge interest in the literature of WW1 but these words by F W
Harvey are among my favourites. Possibly because he writes of returning
when so many of the poets of the time wrote not surprisingly of death.
These lines are from a longer poem but taken alone have an almost
ghostly quality along with the belief that it would be impossible to
resume *normal* life.

From *Rebecca*

(viewed 167 times)
"We can never go back again, that much is certain. The past is still
too close to us. The things we have tried to forget and put behind us
would stir again, and that sense of fear, of furtive unrest, struggling
at length to blind unreasoning panic - now mercifully stilled, thank God
- might in some manner unforeseen become a living companion, as it had
been before."

Sunset

(viewed 190 times)
"After a day of cloud and wind and rain Sometimes the setting sun breaks
out again, And touching all the darksome woods with light, Smiles on the
fields until they laugh and sing, Then like a ruby from the horizon's
ring, Drops down into the night."
